The Lost Lifestyle

Herron School of Art and Design

MFA Working Thesis

The overlooked landscapes of the rural Midwest continue to shape my understanding of people, place, and memory. I study its livelihoods and the traces they leave behind. The solid wood furniture in my family home, worn by generations, becomes both subject and metaphor, carrying the weight of work, history, and touch. My practice explores the shifting balance between labor and rest, belonging and leaving, presence and loss. Using a painterly approach to photography, I build images that distill the quiet poetry of ordinary life. Through this process, I examine how time, distance, and transformation shape the landscapes we come to call home.
